HONDA’S CLASS OF 2008 TO GRADUATE AT LIBS
Latest Marine Apprentices to be
awarded at show
The success of six marine technicians of the
future will be recognised in a special graduation ceremony at the
London International Boat Show on Friday 9th January
2009.
The latest graduates from Honda’s Marine Apprenticeship Programme
will be presented their certificates by Geoff Matthews, General
Manager of Honda (UK) Power Equipment, and Neil Fletcher, Head of
the Honda Institute. The ceremony takes place at 12.30pm on the
Honda stand (7A).
This year’s apprentice graduates are Joseph Henthorn, Christopher
Plant, Duncan Thomson, Scott Kellaway, Timothy Maslen and Kerry
Cox. Kerry will also pick up the special award of ‘Marine
Apprentice of the Year’ – an accolade whereby dealers and trainers
nominate an individual that has gone the extra mile. Kerry’s
trainer commented:
“Kerry is always helpful, keen to learn,
attentive, performs well in all tasks and end of module
exams. He has a great attitude and is a pleasure to
teach.”
The Honda Marine Apprenticeship Programme takes place over two
years, during which time trainees are employed by their local Honda
Marine dealership and attend block training at the Honda Institute,
working on a range of specialist marine products including the
class-leading 225hp V6 fuel-injected marine engine, RIBs and larger
leisure yachts. Qualified apprentices will have achieved
Honda Maintenance Technician Award, Apprenticeship Framework, Key
Skills Qualifications, a City & Guilds technical qualification,
NVQ Level 2 qualification in Marine Engineering and The Honda
Challenge.
Neil Fletcher, Head of the Honda Institute
comments:
"The Honda Institute is proud to support the
development of individual skills in the British Marine industry, as
they are essential to deliver the excellence that our customers
expect. The apprentices graduating at LIBS have given
themselves every chance to succeed and can be confident that their
skills will be valued as they pursue their careers."
The Honda Institute was opened in 2001, and is
the home of people development for Honda in the UK. Working
with sector skills and industry bodies, the Honda Institute
provides a measurable contribution to business performance. Some
10,000 people are employed in Honda dealer networks, and the
Institute delivers approximately 25,000 people-days training every
year.
