Officers from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will be attending the Collins Stewart London Boat Show, at Excel, London from today, Friday 11 January 2008 to answer questions from visitors and the leaflet will be available to take away.
Liz Challand, Exhibitions Manager for HMRC said: “Whether it’s a short shopping trip to France, a business trip or a luxury holiday, travellers need to know what they can and can’t bring into the UK. This is an ideal opportunity for people to chat to Customs about the limits and restrictions that exist to protect them, other people, endangered wildlife and UK businesses. We want to ensure that people do not waste their money on souvenirs that may be taken off them when they get back home, so think before you buy.
Everyone should be aware of which countries are members of the EU and of the guideline levels for bringing alcohol and tobacco back from those countries. Travellers also need to be aware of the limits on alcohol, tobacco and other goods when returning from outside the EU. That seemingly innocent souvenir may be banned in the UK or your shopping may be subject to UK duty and tax.”
The Collins Stewart London Boat Show runs from Friday 11 January 2008 to Sunday 20 January 2008. HMRC officers will be on stand NO34b, to answer questions on Allowances VAT, Self Assessment, Tax Credits and smuggling, as well as other aspects of the work of HMRC. And to show seized goods including items made from animals classed as endangered species banned under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES). A new leaflet explaining HMRC’s online services will also be available for visitors to the stand.
