Classic Boat
classic boat in association with Teamac marine paints

It's A Classic!
Get a taste of this life, as you can climb an actual
mast from HMS victory and set the sails. The only things
missing will be the howling wind and the pitching of ship!
Plus, don't miss the craftsmen demonstrating traditional boat
building techniques, and a selection of beautiful classic boats to
inspire and educate visitors about all things wooden.
Climb out on the Fore Topgallant Yard of HMS Victory

The yard will be suspended 5 metres above the ground at the
Show. This unique authentic Yard is usually found approximately
150' above the deck! It is a unique opportunity to feel
what it is like to be aloft on an 18th century Man O' War.
In addition on show will be selected rigging items which will
show the physical scale of the ship and also the problems
associated with the maintenance of such an iconic and
historic vessel.
Did you know?
“Hands aloft and reef
tops’ls!” was a frequent call heard aboard Nelson’s Flagship
HMS Victory and it signalled the start of one of the most dangerous
jobs aboard, as it meant the crew had to climb the rigging,
edge out along the yards and battle with acres of billowing canvas
to reduce the amount of sail; all whilst the ship was pitching and
rolling and doing its level best to fling the sailors from the
yards. It was however a skill that the Royal Navy was
especially good at, and the sailors who climbed those yards took
great pride in being better at it than the sailors of any other
Navy.
To climb the mast you must be able to fit into the harness.
