New Ribeye safety boat powered by Yamaha for Northampton
Sailability. Handover at Tullett Prebon London Boat Show
Generously funded by staff and management of
Barclaycard
The staff of Barclaycard in Northampton have generously donated
£6,000 from their Christmas Raffle to Northampton Sailability to
enable the purchase of a brand new RIB to replace the group’s
present ageing rescue boat.
A further £6,000 came from Barclaycard in match-funding. Chris
Dabbs, a wheelchair user and keen sailor, said “Generous terms for
the supply of the boat by the boat manufacturer Ribeye and engine
maker Yamaha helped us enormously with this project and we are very
grateful for their help”.
Northampton Sailability has its own fleet of sailing dinghies
and keelboats which are used by people with disabilities of all
kinds to go sailing on the well known Pitsford Reservoir near
Northampton. Members come from as far afield as Cambridge and Rugby
to get afloat and enjoy the sense of freedom and adventure that
sailing can give.
Two Drascombe Longboats are also used to take groups for fully
crewed trips round the 450 acre reservoir. Northampton Sailability
is run entirely by unpaid volunteers. New members and volunteers
are always welcome.
The handover will take place on Thursday at midday on Yamaha stand
H180, south hall, when two representatives from Barclaycard will
make the presentation.
