Go Canoeing
A brand new initiative has been launched by
the sports body for canoe and kayaking in England, who are on
display at the Going for Gold stand at the 2012 Tullett Prebon
London Boat Show.
The British Canoe Union (BCU) is launching an
exciting new initiative in May this year. Called “Go Canoeing”, the
aim of the initiative is to build on the growing popularity of the
sport and recreation and inspire more people to take to the
waterways and canoe and kayak more regularly.
The initiative will develop a range of appealing opportunities
aimed at adults and the family leisure market. These will include
local starter sessions, guided tours and events, as well as
information on where to go and how to get started.
By providing engaging experiences nationwide
for people to enjoy, the aim is to double the number of people who
canoe once a week and increase the number of people canoeing
monthly by 2020.
“Go Canoeing” will consist of a range of
activities and resources that are attractive, easy for people to
find out about and to participate in.
Dr Tim Brabants MBE and Olympic Gold medallist
comments,
“Go Canoeing is an exciting project; the tours, trails and series
of events, delivered in a consumer-focused way, will broaden the
appeal of canoeing, to a wider market. I am particularly pleased
that as we go into 2012, canoeing will be in a strong position to
take advantage of the huge excitement next summer will
generate.”
Look out for the website launch in May 2012
and book yourself onto a tour near you. The project is part funded
by Sport England.
