Born into a kayaking family Ed's passion for
white water kicked in at 11 years old where he developed his love
for kayaking on Scotland's rivers. Whilst in his early teens the
quickly evolving art of freestyle kayaking caught his attention due
to it's dynamic moves and he focused on attaining a place in the
British Freestyle Team which he achieved in 2002. In six years
representing Great Britain Ed won the European Cup Championship and
spent four years from his 18th birthday ranked amongst the top ten
paddlers in the world. More recently his passion for the outdoors
and the roots of the sport have lead him to focus on river paddling
and big wave freestyle. Currently 24 he has been a columnist for
Canoe and Kayak UK Magazine for six years and we meet him as he is
inspired by recent developments in the sport and looks towards his
re-entry to competition.
Ed's been tearing it up at freestyle competitions and extreme
races for the last few years and his dedication, passion and
determination have seen him become arguably the best freestyle
paddler that the UK has produced and he is now widely recognised as
one of the best freestyle paddlers in the world.
Simply put Ed loves paddling and when he's not training or
competing you'll find him searching out and running steep
whitewater, be it a crazy Californian torrent or a vertical boulder
filled burn in his native Scotland.
