Alan Priddy was born on a council estate in Portsmouth in 1953
and freely admits that he "dragged himself up". His 'powerboat'
ambitions started off small when he was 11 years old and messing
about in a motorised dinghy. From that point on he was hooked and
the boats, like the challenges, just kept getting bigger! Since
then he has taken an open RIB Round Scotland, Round Ireland and
Round Britain and across the Bay of Biscay. He crossed the
Atlantic, twice, and set another world record in the process. He
then took a RIB around the world and crossed the Atlantic again (in
just 103 hours). To date he has gained 37 World Records, 12
National Records and three lifetime achievement awards.
After that a very different challenge beckoned and Alan set off
to circumnavigate the world under sail. This time his crew was a
group of disadvantaged young adults and their yacht Sir Alec Rose's
36 foot, 60 year-old, Lively Lady. That project continues
as the charity 'Around and Around'; the crew has recently sailed
Round Britain and another circumnavigation is planned for the
future. The lure of diesel though is strong and Alan is currently
exploring his options for new adventures under power.
